Ami(e)s lectrices et lecteurs, si depuis le temps que vous me lisez, vous ne connaissez toujours pas Penny Reid, l'heure est grave. OUI tout à fait !

Après 5 romans dans sa série Knitting in the City, l'auteur nous offre un petit cadeau d'avant Noël, un collection de scènes (comme son nom l'indique) faisant suite aux aventures de nos couples adorés -enfin presque car la dernière est un prequel, mais j'y reviendrais après.

Les 4 premières scènes se déroulent seulement quelques jours/mois après certains moments clés des romans, oo ce qui se passe pendant les ellipses parfois nécessaires, et une ou deux sont évoquées dans les livres plus tard - "AH" vous entend-je dire tout d'un coup ! Çà vous intéresse maintenant hein ?

Que font Janie et Quinn pendant leur lune de miel à part les activités évidentes ? Elisabeth est toute chamboulée après la Bachelorette Party de Vegas et retrouve Nico quelques jours après. Alex a prévu une surprise de taille pour l'anniversaire de Sandra. Ashley tourne en rond dans son appartement presque vide, avant l'arrivée imminente de Drew...

Tous ces petits instantanés de vie se révèlent indispensables pour nos pauvre petits coeurs romantiques. Je me rend compte aussi, que non seulement j'ai hâte de retrouver tous ces personnages d'un livre à l'autre, mais que j'adore aussi avoir des petits bouts de leur vie par-ci par-là ♥.

Enfin le dernier extrait est un avant-goût du prochain tome dans la série, il concerne Fiona et Greg : c'est un flashback de leur première rencontre à l'université. Fiona a 18 ans, Greg 23, ils logent dans le même dortoir et fatalement ils vont se rentrer dedans -littéralement- et ça va être explosif dès le début. Penny nous lâche aussi des informations personnelles sur Fiona et sur Greg qui jouent et vont jouer un rôle important dans la construction de leur personnalités et de leur relation, et ça promet que du bon.

Et après l'intensité émotionnelle dans laquelle Drew nous a mises, Greg va nous achever xD.

Dear readers, if you are reading me for some time now and you still don't know Penny Reid, we have a problem. YES absolutely!

After five novels in the Knitting in the City series, the author offers us a gift before Christmas, a collection of scenes (as the name suggests) following the adventures of our beloved couples -almost because the latter is a prequel, but I'll come back later.

The first 4 scenes take place only a few days/months after specific moments in the novels, or what happens during the sometimes necessary ellipses, and one or two are mentioned in later books - "AH" I hear you all say ! You're interested now eh ?

What do Janie and Quinn do during their honeymoon apart from the obvious ? Elisabeth is shaked up after the Bachelorette Party Vegas and finally get back to Nico a few days later. Alex has planned a birthday surprise for Sandra. Ashley paces in her nearly empty apartment, before the imminent arrival of Drew ...

All these little snapshots of life are indispensable for our poor little romantic hearts. I realize, too, that not only do I look forward to seeing all these characters from one book to another, but I also love having bits of their lives here and there ♥.

Finally, the last extract is a foretaste of the next book in the series, it's about Fiona and Greg : this is a flashback to their first meeting at the university. Fiona is 18, Greg 23, they stay in the same dorm and inevitably they will get into each other -literally- and it will be explosive. Penny also gives us personal informations about Fiona and Greg which are and will be important in shaping their personalities and their relationship, and it only promises good things.

And after the emotional intensity in which Drew has put us, Greg will finish us xD.

Surement le meilleur tome de la série jusqu'à présent. J'aime beaucoup les précédents mais je crois que là, l'écriture de Penny Reid les surpasse à tous les niveaux : l'histoire, les personnages, l'émotion, l'harmonie entre l'humour et la tristesse...

Ashley, comme ses copines avant elle, est un héroïne à laquelle on peut s'identifier sans problème, ses défauts et qualités font d'elle une personne normale et imparfaite. "I like to plan my work days and vacations around food" xD alors ça c'est exactement moi (mais je crois que je suis pire, je fais tout en fonction des heures des repas, c'est grave...).

Mais Ashley a quelque chose d'absolument parfait et génial : 6 frères (3 plus vieux et 3 plus jeune). Des frères qu'elle n'a pas vu depuis plusieurs années et qui vont tous la surprendre. Ecrire merveilleusement 6 fortes personnalités différentes (en plus des 2 héros) et leur donner chacune assez d'espace sans en favoriser un plus que d'autre, c'est un challenge pour n'importe quel auteur j'imagine, mais Penny réussi à nous les faire aimer instantanément, c'est biologiquement impossible de rester insensible devant tous ces barbus ♥ (et ce n'est que le début puisque Penny va nous écrire leur tome à chacun l'année prochaine *danse du slip*).

Ensuite on a Drew. Alors j'aime beaucoup Quinn et Alex, et j'adoooore Nico... mais DREW QUOI ou plutôt ♥Drew♥Drew♥Drew♥Drew♥Drew♥ comme on a commencé à l'appeler avec les copines. Bon Drew est parfait, Drew est un viking (Travis Fimmel ou Charlie Hunnam au choix), Drew a une barbe, Drew joue de la guitare et chante, Drew a des BRETELLES ! Drew a un petit carnet qui est la chose la plus couinable du monde...

Enfin l'histoire, le sujet est triste il faut le savoir, mais il est entrecoupé de moments absurdes et drôles à en mourir de rire (gare au raton-laveur enragé !) (Penny aurais-tu été victime de Rocket ?). Ces instants de fun sont là pour nous rappeler qu'il faut simplement profiter des petits plaisirs de la vie.

Je ne peux que vous conseiller la lecture de ce livre, qui sortira tout bientôt (une question de jour), la date officiel est le 28 août mais les précommande Amazon sont possible ;)

Probably the best book in the series so far. I love the previous books but I think Penny Reid's writing surpasses them at all levels : the story, the characters, emotion, harmony between humor and sadness...

Ashley, like her friends before her, is a heroine that we can identify to without problem, her flaws and qualities make her a normal, imperfect person. "I like to design my work days and vacations around food" xD this is exactly me (but I think I'm worse, I do everything according to mealtimes, this is serious...).

But Ashley has something absolutely perfect and brilliant : 6 brothers (3 older and 3 younger). Brothers she has not seen for many years and that will surprise her. To write wonderfully strong 6 different characters (plus the 2 heroes) and give each enough space without favoring one over the other, is a challenge for any writer I guess, but Penny managed to make us love them instantly, it is biologically impossible to remain unmoved by all these bearded men ♥ (and that's just the beginning because Penny will write their book next year *panty danse party*).

Then we have Drew. So I love Quinn and Alex, and I looove Nico ... but COME ON DREW !!! or rather ♥Drew♥Drew♥Drew♥Drew♥Drew♥ as we started calling him with my friends. Well Drew is perfect, Drew is a Viking (Travis Fimmel or Charlie Hunnam your choice), Drew has a beard, Drew plays guitar and sings, Drew has BRACES ! Drew has a little notebook that is the most lovething in the world...

Finally the story, you need to know that the main storyline is a sad one, but it is interspersed with absurd and funny times that can be hilarious (beware of rabid raccoons!) (Penny are you a victim of Rocket?). These moments of fun are there to remind us to just enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

I can only advise you to read this book, it will be released very soon (a matter of days), the official date is August 28th but the Amazon pre-order are possible ;)

Je m'étais aussi inscrite au Blog Tour, et j'ai été selectionnée pour faire une interview de Penny et un casting des personnages principaux ! Houra !

Last month I reviewed Penny Reid's last novel, Neanderthal Marries Human, a book I read before anybody ahahah... I also applied for the Bog Tour and I was choosen for an author interview and characters cast ! Houray !

 

About Penny Reid

  

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment.

The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex.

Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing). By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter.

By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

About writing :

♥ Vos histoires sont drôles, rafraichissantes, remplies de soleil, de cocktails et de cupcake comparé à d'autres romances dont les intrigues sont plutôt sombres (on en voit de partout dans les librairies), mais vos personnages n'ont pas toujours un histoire paisible. Qu'est-ce qui vous a décidé à écrire des romances joyeuses ? / Your stories are funny, refreshing, full of sunlight, cocktails and cupcakes comparing to other romances with gloomy plots (we see those everywhere in bookstores), but your characters don't always have peacefull backgrounds. What make you choose to write cheerfull romances ?

Tout d'abord merci, j'apprécie beaucoup vos mots gentils.

J'écris des romances "joyeuses" car j'aime écrire des histoires menée par les personnages, et je crois à une écriture responsable. C'est-à-dire que je ne met pas mes personnages dans des situations sans savoir comment ils vont se sortir du problème d'une façon responsable et réaliste.

Les livres aux intrigues sombres ont tendance à être menés par celle-ci, leurs personnages n'évoluent pas souvent ni ne se remettent en questions. Les évènements leur tombent dessus. Ils réagissent à leur environnement, mais mais rarement d’une manière réaliste quant à ce qui se passe dans leur tête.

J'aime quand mes personnages se développent, qu'ils changent entre la page 1 et 400. Donc, une histoire qui semble chaotique au début (tristesse et tragédie) finit généralement avec une leçon apprise (évolution joyeuse du personnage).

I write “cheerful” romances because I like to write character-driven stories and I believe in writing responsibly. Meaning, I don’t put my characters into situations without having a plan to have them work through the issue/their issues in a responsible and realistic manner.

Books with gloomy plots tend to be plot driven/the characters rarely grow or self-evaluate. Things happen to them. They react to their environment, but rarely react realistically to inner turmoil.

I like my characters to grow, change from page 1 to page 400. Therefore, what might start as a kerfuffle (gloom and doom) typical ends with a lesson learned (cheerful character growth).

 

♥ A quel point vos personnages vous ressemblent-ils ? / How much of yourself do you put in your characters ?

J'aime me dire que chacune de mes héroïnes correspond à une partie de mon psyché, même si mes traits de caractère sont plus subtiles.

Je suis maladroite en société comme Janie, et cite fréquemment des revues médicales quand je suis nerveuse. Mais au lieu de me laisser aller à faire l'autruche, j'ai appris à me montrer sociable. Je suis sarcastique et tétue comme Elizabeth, mais -encore- ça ne me paralyse pas (comme c'était le cas pour elle). J'ai la peau dure comme Sandra et peu de choses me dérange (la plupart du temps je ne me rend pas compte des insultes ou je suis trop occupée pour les remarquer). Mais je n'attire pas les autres autour de moi comme elle.

J'adore Star Wars, les comics, Star Trek, Doctor Who et le blagues mathématiques (passionnément). je suppose que je suis dans chacune d’elle, mais qu’aucune d’elle n’est moi.

I’d like to think that each of the (female) characters is based on a facet of my psyche, though my character traits are much more subtle.

I’m socially awkward like Janie and frequently quote pubmed (medical research) citations when I’m flustered. But instead of giving into the urge to bury my head in the sand, I’ve learned to force myself to be social. I’m sarcastic and stubborn like Elizabeth, but—again—I’m not crippled by it (like she was/is). I have a very thick skin like Sandra and not much bothers me (usually because I’m either oblivious to insults or too busy to notice them). But I’m not a people magnet like she is.

I love Star Wars and comic books and Star Trek and Dr. Who and math jokes (quite passionately). I guess I’m all of them, but none of them are me. ☺

♥ Quelles sont vos méthodes d'écriture ? / What's your writing process ?

Je suis une comploteuse. J'ai déterminé les histoires des 7 tomes de ma série après avoir écris Neanderthal Seeks Human. Je sais quelles scènes vont arriver, quand, et la plupart des dialogues. J'ai fait cela pour semer des indices dans mes premiers livres sur ce qui se passera dans le futur pour les autres.

Neanderthal Marries Human représentait un challenge car je n'avais pas prévu de l'écrire !! Mais les lecteurs en voulaient plus, j'étais heureuse de leur faire plaisir.

I’m a plotter. I had all 7 books in the Knitting in the City series plotted out after I finished Neanderthal Seeks Human. I know what scenes are going to happen, when, and the general gist of the dialogue. I did this so I could leave bread crumbs (hints) in earlier books about the action/plot of future books.

Neanderthal Marries Human presented a bit of a challenge because I hadn’t counted on writing it!! But readers wanted more, so I was happy to oblige.

 

♥ Est-ce vous savez s'il y a des chances pour que vos livres soient traduits (en français pour nous ^^) ? / Do you know if there is any chance in the future that your books will be translated ? (In French in particular ^^)

Peut-être... Je viens de signer avec un agent, qui est en train de négocier des droits pour l'étranger ! Plus d'informations là-dessus en 2015 si tout va bien.

Maybe…I just signed with an Agent who is negotiating foreign rights! More on this (hopefully) in 2015.

 

About the books :

♥ Qui Janie préfère-t-elle : Marvel ou DC Comics ? Qui sont ses superhéros préférés après Bat-Quinn ? / Who Janie likes best : Marvel or DC Comics ? Or who are her favorite superheroes after Bat-Quinn ?

Janie pense que DC Comics a beaucoup déçu ses dernières années (à l'exception de Batman). Elle est particulièrement outrée qu'ils aient terriblement échoué à réaliser un film ou une série TV sur Wonder Woman. Elle se demande souvent comment elle répondra à sa future fille quand celle-ci demandera "maman, pourquoi il n'y pas de film de Wonder Woman ?".

Donc elle préfère Marvel, car leur ratio de superhéros homme/femme est plus équitable (temps à l'écran, ressources, et concentration des talents), mais pas idéal encore.

Janie feels DC Comics has let the ball drop (with the exception of Batman) in recent years. She is especially outraged that they’ve failed to make a Wonder Woman movie or viable TV show. She often worries about how she will respond to her future daughter when she asks, “Mommy, how come there is no Wonder Woman movie?”

Therefore, she prefers Marvel since their ratio of male/female superheroes is more equitable (screen time, resources, and focus of talent) though still not ideal.

 

♥ Est-ce que la Bachelorette Party à Vegas est basée sur des faits réel ? C'était tellement génial que j'ai lu ce chapitre 2 fois de suite... Je meure aussi d'envie de savoir ce qu'il s'est passé entre Kate et Dan, mais j'imagine qu'on aura le fin mot de l'histoire dans leur tome, pourquoi faut-il que ce soit le dernier ? / Is the Bachelorette Party in Vegas based on true events in NMH ? It was so awesome I've read it 2 times in a row... Also, i'm dying to know what happened between Kate and Dan, but I guess we will know it in the book, why does it have to be the last one :( ?

La Bachelorette Party est basée sur des faits réels dans le sens où j'ai fait une fois un séjour de folie à Vegas... Mais ce qui se passe à Vegas, reste à Vegas. Donc je n'en dirais pas plus.

AH ! Oui. Là encore, c'était fait exprès. J'essaie de créer du suspense pour le 7e tome (comme tu l'as remarqué ce sera le dernier). Tout cela fait partie de mon plan maléfique...

The Bachelorette party is based on true events insomuch as I once went to Vegas and had a crazy time… but what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Therefore, I shall say no more.

HA! Yes. Again, this was purposeful. I’m trying to build the suspense for the 7th book (as you note, Kat and Dan’s book will be the last book in the series). It’s all part of my sinister plan…

Yes, yes Penny, I've read it 2 times in a row, I've never laugh so much while reading, every bit of that party was perfect ^^.

 

♥ Si Nico pouvait jouer dans un film adapté d'un livre, quel livre et/ou personnage choisiriez-vous ? / If Nico could play in a movie adapted from a book, which book and/or character would you choose ?

Petit oubli je pense, mais rien de grave, du coup les gens, vous pouvez répondre à la question dans les commentaires si vous voulez. Suite à une illumination, je verais bien Nico dans le rôle de Ruru Carsington *-* ("Un insupportable gentleman" de Loretta Chase)

So hum... I think it's a tiny oversight here, but it doesn't matter. Penny if you read this, you can answer in the comments ;-) and everyone else can too ^^ (just clic "commentaires"). I was thinking that Nico could play Rupert *Ruru* Carsington very well *-* ("Mr Impossible" by Loretta Chase)

 

♥ Est-ce que Sandra approuve le choix de JJ Abrams pour réaliser le nouveau Star Wars, et quelles sont ses attentes pour ce film ? / Does Sandra agrees with the choice of JJ Abrams for directing the new Starwars movie and what are her expectations for it ?

Sandra approuve.

- Raison n°1 : comme tout vrai fan qui se respecte, elle veut plus de Star Wars pour assouvir sa passion, donc une part d'elle prend ce qu’on lui offre.

- Raison n°2 : JJ Abrams fait travailler les scénaristes des épisodes 5 et 6 sur ce film. Cela lui donne un *nouvel espoir* pour le film.

Ses attentes actuellement sont : NE SOIT PAS A CHIER S'IL TE PLAIT.

Sandra does agree.

Reason #1: Like any true fan, she wants more Star Wars movies to feed her addiction. Therefore, part of her will happily take what she can get.

Reason #2: JJ Abrams brought in the script writer for Episodes 5&6 to help with the movie. Because of this, she has high hopes for the films.

Her expectations at this point are as follows: PLEASE DON’T SUCK

(I have to say, the "please don't suck" was quite a challenge to translate into something that give the same feeling xD) (if you ever need French swearing words one day, just ask ^^)

Jane Austen’s Persuasion. The letter Captain Wentworth writes to Anne Elliot at the end gets me EVERY TIME.
